Check your SASSA SRD R370 grant balance using four free methods: USSD code *120*69277#, WhatsApp on 082 046 8553, the official portal at srd.sassa.gov.za, or a Postbank ATM. All methods are zero-cost and work without a smartphone or data for the USSD and ATM options.
Method 1: USSD Balance Check — *120*69277#
Dial *120*69277# from the phone number registered with your SASSA application. This is the most reliable offline method and works on any South African network — Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, Telkom Mobile.
- Dial *120*69277# and press call
- Select option 1 for SRD R370 status
- Enter your 13-digit South African ID number when prompted
- Your current balance, last payment amount and next payment date display on screen
The session costs R0.20 per query and times out after 90 seconds. Alternate USSD code: *120*3210# if the primary code is temporarily unavailable. The USSD menu also shows approved, pending or declined status for the current payment cycle.
Method 2: WhatsApp Balance Check — 082 046 8553
Save 082 046 8553 to your contacts as SASSA WhatsApp. Open WhatsApp and send the word Hi to start. The automated bot responds with a menu.
- Send "Hi" to 082 046 8553 on WhatsApp
- Select option 1 — SRD Status Check
- Send your 13-digit ID number
- The bot returns your current status, payment amount and payment date
This method requires WhatsApp and a data connection but no airtime. Works 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If the bot does not respond within 5 minutes, send "Hi" again to restart the session.
Method 3: Online Balance Check — srd.sassa.gov.za
Visit srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status on any browser and enter your 13-digit ID number plus the phone number you used when applying.
- Open srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status in Chrome or Firefox
- Enter your South African ID number (13 digits, no spaces)
- Enter your registered cellphone number
- Click Check Status — results appear within 3 seconds
The portal shows month-by-month payment history, your next payment date and any decline reasons. Check between Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 14:00 for the fastest response times. Avoid the 24th to 30th of each month when server load peaks during batch processing.
Method 4: Postbank ATM Balance Check
Insert your SASSA Gold Card at any Postbank ATM and select Balance Inquiry from the main menu. Your current available balance displays on screen within 5 seconds.
- Postbank ATMs are found at Post Office branches, SASSA service points and selected retailers
- First transaction per month is free — subsequent transactions cost R2.50
- Mini statement option shows last 5 transactions including SASSA payment date
- If your card is a Black Card (old blue design), you must swap it for a Gold Card before December 2026
Why Your Balance Might Show Zero or Be Unavailable
- Payment not released yet: SASSA releases SRD payments in batches from the 24th to 30th of each month. Check after the 24th.
- Declined status this month: Log into srd.sassa.gov.za to see the decline reason and appeal within 90 days.
- Wrong phone number: If the portal says "details not matched", your registered number differs from what you entered. Contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11.
- Banking details pending: Your payment is held until SASSA verifies your bank account through BVS. This takes 5–14 working days after you submit new banking details.
